The Anchorage Equal Rights Commission and its staff enforce the law by impartially investigating and resolving complaints alleging illegal discrimination or harassment based on:

The Commission was established in the Anchorage Charter in 1975 as the Municipal law enforcement agency charged to eliminate and prevent unlawful discrimination under Title 5 of the Municipal Code within the geographic boundaries of the Municipality.
The Anchorage Equal Rights Commission is governed by nine commission members who are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Anchorage Assembly.
